Road Trip, Day 25
Nevada, Utah, Wyoming
And the long slog home has begun! A day of driving, driving, driving. Although I think we have had longer driving days.
We left Reno at 8:50, and headed east. We stopped in Winnemucca to buy food and have a picnic in the park. (Middle of the desert, but they have a green lawn park, and of course someone mowing it.)
And onward through Nevada. Elko looked like it would be a perfect place to stop for the night, cheap motels, a Smith's supermarket, a Walmart. Of course it was around 3 when we passed through it. You never find them when you need them...
Around 4:30 we crossed into Utah, and suddenly it was 5:30. This time zone thing is gonna suck on the way back, great as it was on the way out. And now we were on "familiar" territory -- we'd driven this exact stretch once already on this trip. Through the salt flats into Salt Lake. We were debating how far to push it tonight before stopping. It was just after 7 when we got to Salt Lake. The next useful looking town would be some 80 miles or so in Wyoming. We got stuck in traffic, crawled along for a half hour almost to go a mile due to a 4 car pile up, and this actually heightened my resolve to push on, get more miles under our belts, lest bad traffic or who knows what screw us up later.
The push through to Evanston, WY wasn't so bad, we got in just after 8:30, local time. Found a motel with an OK, not great, price petty easily. No wifi, again. I've stopped even expecting it...
In summary: boring. But we're having fun. (view pictures)
