Road Trip, Day 20
Yosemite to San Francisco We have made it across the continent!
We started today with our second day in Yosemite. We went the northern, "meadow" part up in the mountains, with almost no expectations. The ranger at the gate took our pass as if we were handing her a used handkerchief. Forewarned, we knew to look for signs for 140 to get to the part we were looking for. We drove for a while, and eventually came to Tenaya Lake. We had a picnic, then spread a blanket on the beach and spent the afternoon lying in the sun, napping, and splashing in the water.
That was it. That was our day. Around 3:30 we started on our way out of the park and to San Francisco. We put in a book on CD, and drove west. Dinner at a chinese place in Oakdale (no, not Oakland -- further away and more Wild West).
And then we arrived in San Fran. We missed an exit and circled around a bit before we found Castro St. and Saroj's place. She wasn't in, so we had to find a phone, give her a call. Got the car parked and unpacked, and now we are safely ensconced. High speed internet!
Driving around I was reminded of why I like San Francisco: Out-of-town, lost tourist, I thought the street I was on was one-way when in fact it was two way, and I was in the middle of the street at a red light. A car turning in was blocked by me. He didn't honk, didn't curse me, he just backed up, and passed me on the right. Cool, laid back people, that's what I love about this city! (view pictures)
