Vidareidi, Viðoy, Faroe Islands
Vidareidi, Viðoy, Faroe Islands

Another day, another Island to explore. This is the town where the title character from Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen's Barbara was from (in real life she was called Beinta).

The silver in the church is a gift from Britain in thanks for rescuing a British shipwreck in 1847. The locals tell the story of a black sailor pulling himself out of the sea and staggering into the church to pray thanks and scaring all the townspeople who had never seen a black man and thought he was a demon.
